Understanding Annulments
An annulment involves dissolving a marriage as if it never happened. A divorce, on the other hand, involves terminating a legal divorce.
For the court to grant your annulment request, you must meet at least one of the grounds for annulment. In Michigan, these grounds include:
- One person was already married at the time of the subsequent marriage (bigamy)
- One party was under 18
- A spouse failed to disclose their infertility or hid their criminal record (fraud)
- The person who performed the ceremony didn’t meet the legal requirements to do so
